Our History
The Company was floated as Abacus Group Plc on the UK stock exchange in November 1993. In October 1994 the Company made its first international acquisition with the acquisition of Promax. In December 1995, the group merged with Polar Electronics a UK distributor and in 1999 acquired Micromark.
In 2000 two further businesses were acquired in the UK: Trident Microsystems and C&CD (later merged with Micromark, formerly IEC). In 2001 the company acquired CCS Electronics.
2003 marked Abacus Group’s entry to the Italian market with the purchase of ECC Elettronica. This was followed with the acquisition of UK based TDC, a specialist design distributor to the telecom industry, in 2004.
January 2006 saw the completion of the Deltron acquisition, an electromechanical distributor. This acquisition generated a wider geographical spread for the Abacus Group giving them presence in Germany and Austria as well as further offices across Europe. In April 2006 Abacus announced the purchase of Axess Technology Group, a French based company comprising two distributors; Axess specialising in display and wireless communications products and RDI a passive components specialist.
